Permanent Visa

Skilled Regional visa (subclass 887)

This visa is intended for people living and working in certain areas of regional Australia on the basis of a previously qualified visa.
This visa permits you
  • Stay in Australia permanently
  • Entitled to enroll in a study course or do job anywhere in Australia
  • Sponsor your relatives to come to Australia
  • Travel inside or outside Australia for 5 years. In case you want to travel after the initial 5 year’s travel facility.
  • You will have to apply for and be granted a Resident-Return (RRV) to re-enter Australia as a permanent resident.
  • Sponsor eligible relatives to come to Australia.
  • Eligibility to apply for Australian citizenship.
  • Newly arrived dwellers may have to wait to access certain Australian Government payments and benefits.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Have an eligible visa or have held an eligible visa that expired outside Australia during the concession period
  • Have lived for at least 2 years and worked full time for at least 1 year in a specified regional area, unless COVID-19 concessions apply
  • Have complied with the conditions of the eligible visa you hold or have held
  • When you apply for this visa, you must have worked full-time for at least 12 months (unless COVID-19 concessions apply), as the holder of one or more eligible visas.
  • Applicants of age 18 or above need to have Functional English, otherwise you will have to pay an extra charge, called the second installment for this visa to be granted. Or pay the second installment of the visa application charge when asked.
  • Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused

Include family

You can include family members in your application if they currently have qualified visas. At the time of application, you must include each family member who is eligible to apply for this visa. After you submit, you will no longer be able to add family members.

You can include family members who no longer meet the basic definition of a family unit member if they have been granted a qualified visa on the basis that they are members of your family unit. This provision applies, for example, if you want to include in your application a child who has already been 23 years old after receiving a qualified visa.

Family members included in your application must meet our health and character requirements. Family members not accompanying you to Australia may also need to meet our health and character requirements.

Newborn children

If you have a child who was born either in or outside Australia since you were granted your current visa you must tell us about your child before you lodge this application
